Dry erase stickers and boards are a great way to create reusable writing surfaces for offices, classrooms, workshops, and even home organization. To keep them looking clear and performing well, regular cleaning with the right materials is essential. Proper care prevents staining, ink buildup, and “ghosting,” ensuring your surface stays smooth and easy to wipe clean for repeated use.
Best Cleaning Methods
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth or microfiber towel to gently wipe the surface.
- Clean with isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) for deeper cleanings. Lightly dampen your cloth — avoid spraying directly on the surface.
- For everyday erasing, a standard dry erase eraser, paper towel, or microfiber cloth works great.
- If marker residue remains, wipe with a small amount of mild dish soap diluted in water, then dry completely.
- Always clean after use — leaving ink on the surface for long periods can make it harder to remove over time.
Avoid These Cleaners
To protect the surface, do not use:
- Abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads
- Bleach or ammonia-based sprays (like Windex®)
- Solvents such as acetone or paint thinner
- Paper towels with rough textures (they can scratch the gloss layer)
Compatible Markers
Our dry erase products work best with standard dry erase markers (Expo® or similar). Read more about dry erase markers. Avoid permanent markers or wet-erase markers unless your design specifically calls for them.
Want Tips?
- Prevent “Ghosting” – If you notice faint marks that won’t wipe away, apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a soft cloth and gently polish the area. Cleaning frequently prevents this buildup and keeps your surface bright and clear.
- Keep a microfiber cloth and a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol handy near your board for quick cleanups. With routine care, your dry erase sticker or board can stay clear and glossy for years of use.
- Use proper dry erase vinyl installation methods to eliminate bubbles or wrinkles.
